High-school senior invites 92-year-old great-grandmother to prom and they were stars of the dance

Prom is the biggest night of the year for so many high-schoolers. It is an evening filled with dreams, excitement, and anticipation as they say goodbye to their years at school. For Dakota Wollan, a senior at Watford City High School in North Dakota, prom night held a different kind of significance. He found himself without a date and didn’t know who to ask.

His dad came up with a heartwarming idea. Dakota’s great-grandmother had never experienced a prom and this would be the perfect opportunity for Dakota to do something special for her. Dakota was honored at the chance to give some joy to his family’s matriarch and realized that this was the perfect way to make the evening unforgettable for both of them.

Dakota had the perfect plan to invite her to prom. “I have this old truck she gave me,” he said in an interview with KFYR-TV. “It’s a 1985 ford she handed down to me and I got it running again. So, I took that truck and made a sign.”

Madeline Miller, Dakota’s great-grandmother, was in complete shock when she saw the sign. “I was just wondering why he would want a 92-year-old going to prom with him when there are so many young girls in the school,” she said.

Despite her initial surprise, Madeline accepted the invitation because Dakota made it clear that he wouldn’t attend without her. As someone who had never been to a prom, Miller saw this as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
